Hartford Head Start Congratulations and Welcome
On Friday, June 18, 2010, the Hartford Head Start Membership received their first ever Collective Bargaining Agreement ... signed, sealed and delivered. Sonja Rogers and Phyllis Edwards, who were instrumental in not only organizing this group but also in holding them together through 5 years of contract negotiations, said "this is a wonderful day for us all thanks to SEIU!” What a big day it was for SEIU, too...not only do we get to welcome 115 new Members to our SEIU Family but our new Membership also donated almost $2500.00 to COPE from their NLRB Unfair Labor Practice back pay victory. Congratulations, again....too all of us in the SEIU Family.
Buena Vista Charter Township Members Ratify New Agreement
A tentative agreement between SEIU and Buena Vista Township was ratified by the voting membership on June 23rd. The vote was unanimous in favor of the agreement. The agreement extends the current contract for 1 year without any changes in benefits. The new expiration date is June 30, 2011. The Township has just completed their fiscal audit and they have a 8% shortfall however no reductions in staffing will result. Savings will partly come from reserves and also from 4-5 vacant positions not being filled in various departments.
4th Annual Community Outreach Picnic Celebration
The 4th Annual Community Outreach Picnic Celebration will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Belle Isle Park, Shelter #8.
The festivities will run from Noon to 6:00 p.m. and will include a fish fry, Karaoke, Bid Whiz Tournament, games and prizes.
Music will be provided by D.J. Dave.
There will be a school supply giveaway.
Please bring non-perishable and can goods to support neighborhood shelters.
