Saginaw School Playground Clean-up Planned

June 1, 2009

The SEIU Local 517M Sagainw City Employees Chapter will be holding a playground clean-up at the Stone School on Saturday, June 6th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The school is located at 1600 State St. Saginaw, 48602.

Participants will meet at the school. Lunch and beverages will be provided. If any SEIU member has a student who needs community service hours, please bring them along.

SEIU Members to Bank of America: We Deserve A Voice

SEIU, MoveOn.org and other community groups collected over 70,000 “Taxpayer Proxy” demands to the Bank of America shareholder meeting calling on it to: fire CEO Ken Lewis; support strong banking reform; eliminate predatory lending practices and unreasonable fees; support the Employee Free Choice Act to ensure workers have a voice to speak out for consumers and improve working conditions; and provide affordable healthcare to bank workers so they are not forced to rely on tax-payer funded public health programs. The Proxy demands will be presented at the Bank of America shareholder meetings in Charlotte, NC.

SEIU Successful in Mental Health Board Appointments

On March 24, 2009, the Saginaw County Commissioners included in their meeting agenda a vote on three year appointments of several Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority Board seats that were to expire on April 1 of this year. Local 517M Region I leaders were successful in getting 2 SEIU members appointed, even thought the CEO of SCCMHA, Sandra Lindsay, and the Chair, Phil Grimaldi had campaigned to have their hand picked appointees selected. We truly have some allies and dear friends with the Saginaw County Commissioners.
