Congressman Mark Schauer Meets With SEIU 517M Members

Congressman Mark Schauer (D-Battle Creek, 7th Congressional) had the opportunity to meet with members and staff in Lansing on February 19th. He discussed the status of Healthcare reform, the extension of unemployment benefits, a jobs bill and his agreement to co-sponsor H.R. 2104 the Safety, Efficiency and Accountability in Transportation Projects through Public Inspection Act. This act requires public employees perform the inspection on all state and local transportation projects. Its passage will ensure that public safety is protected, transportation funds are not wasted and projects are delivered in a timely manner.

SEIU Local 517M Supports Virg Bernero for Lansing Mayor

At a press conference held on July 29, 2009 in Lansing, Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero publicly announced that SEIU Local 517M has supported him for Lansing Mayor. The Local 517M Executive Board voted at their July 23, 2009 meeting to support Bernero's re-election as Lansing's Mayor. Mayor Bernero has been there for the membership as a County Commissioner, State Representative, State Senator and as Lansing's Mayor. SEIU Local 517M member Bryan Grochowski, and staff members Cheryl Bollinger, Dave Corrie and Dennis Streeter attended the press conference on behalf of Local 517M.
