HSS Members Received Layoff Notices

HSS members who received layoff notices should follow the direction of that notice and not report to work on the days indicated. The HSS unit has filed a grievance on this issue and will keep the membership advised.
On March 25, 2009, the Coalition of State Employee Unions met with Professor Charles Ballard of Michigan State University at the SEIU Office.
This meeting was held to discuss strategies to highlight the sacrifices that state employees have already made in helping the State save money. This is being done in response to House Resolution 45 calling for an additional 5% pay cut for State Employees as well as the March 23rd request by the Michigan House Republicans to cut existing state wages by 5% plus cancel all future contract wage increases for state employees.

Union to Meet With State March 4th

The State Budget Director and the Office of the State Employer will be presenting the State's official budget to the three SEIU Local 517M bargaining teams on March 4, 2009. These are NOT negotiations, this is simply the State informing the Unions of the specific budget issues that are already out there in the press. The bargaining teams would have to agree to negotiate any concessions and the entire bargaining unit would have to vote on any type of tentatively agreed to concessions.
